The Department of Education and Technology is one of the units of Sangwa Job Training Center ltd. This Center was created on the 5th February 2015. It is a domestic company limited by shares and registered under Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Code Number: 103550546. It was formed in order to eradicate youth poverty and unemployment by engaging them in creating productive employments through professional and vocational education and training. The Department of Education and Technology has been assigned the following objectives:
To assist educational organisations and the community in the effective use of educational technology in teaching, learning and research.
To provide leadership in the creation of technology-based learning environments.
To design and develop instructional materials which can facilitate learning activities.
To assist in the development and use of flexible online learning environments and large team-based multimedia and web development project management.
To design and develop educational digital content, Massive Open Online Courses, Open Educational Resources, e-assessments tools, and Learning Management Systems.
To provide leadership in identification, Monitoring and Evaluation of emerging instructional technologies.
To provide educational institutions and the community with specialised expertise in smart learning and smart community.
To support campus groups in the use of sound, presentation and visual communication technologies.
To build staff, teacher, student and the community capacity in education and learning technologies.
Organise local and international conferences and forums in education and technologies, smart learning and smart community.
The creation of the Department of Education and Technology as a Unit under Sangwa Job Training Center Ltd. is an attempt to respond to the national and international expectations. This is expressed in the four five-year rolling National Information and Communication Infrastructure (NICI) Plans extended over the 20-year lifespan of Rwanda’s Vision 2020; Smart Africa striving to put ICT at the centre of Africa socio-economic development agenda; Sustainable Development Goal 4 for constructing inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, and Sustainable Development Goal 8 for promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
